A-List Skin Fixes

As the weather changes, so too does our skin. The harsh weather and central heating can cause all types of problems so we’ve put together a few tips by industry experts that will keep your skin glowing this Winter.

Here are some of the most common skin issues, with tips on how to get that A-list radiant look.

Smoking, alcohol, bad diet and wearing make-up daily can lead to dull, tired skin. Let’s face it, we all suffer from some degree of dull looking skin at certain stages so knowing how to get that healthy glow back is important.

In terms of diet, try to avoid too much alcohol and beware of too much salt, it’s the main thing that makes eyes look tired. Try drinking herbal tea to help drain away excess fluid.

According to experts, when you’re under 20, your skin cells turn over every 28 days. By your 20’s, turnover slows, and between 30 and 40, that rate slows to every 40 days. As dead skin cells pile up, they begin to diffuse the light which causes skin to look dull.

Exfoliation is an essential part of your skin regime as you age, so make sure to use a light exfoliator at night as opposed to in the morning, this way you’ll remove all the build up from the day. Try to use a glycolic acid peel once a week, as it’s one of the most effective exfoliators because it penetrates deeply.

Vitamin C is also a potent antioxidant which brightens skin and helps fade sun spots that make your skin look flat and dull.

Changes in weather can cause dry skin, which causes us to loose our healthy glow. It goes without saying that we need to use a good moisturiser as well as drinking lots of water daily. There is however, a big difference between moisturising and hydrating – you need to get water into your skin cells before you moisturise on top to seal it. Serum’s are extremely important to give that extra moisture boost.

A good tip recommended to me in order to brighten and smooth dry skin is to heat up a few teaspoons of water, then add two aspirin tablets and crush with a spoon. Aspirin contains acetylsalicylic acid, a salicylic acid derivative that brightens the skin. Massage the mixture onto the skin and leave for five minutes before rinsing off.

This might sound strange but the best way to tackle oily skin is with more oil. Experts say, starving your skin of oil by using harsh cleansers will only make oily skin worse. Use an oil-based cleanser and follow with a light moisturiser.

Stress encourages skin to produce oil so it’s important to get proper sleep and try to eat more green leafy vegetables like spinach, as it provides essential fiber to help keep your skin clear.
